CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – If you thought you saw a lot of people walking around downtown Friday carrying golf clubs, you weren’t seeing things. The Second Annual BIG Birdie Ball Urban Golf Tournament was to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville.
Twelve teams making up around 35 golfers played in the event on a custom 9-hole course throughout downtown and raised just over $5,000 for the organization to help provide support for youth facing adversity as well as mentors who will inspire them to reach their potential.
Winning teams in the morning flight of players included:
1st Place: Pam Elston, Steve Elston, Noreen Bowman and Brian Duerr
2nd Place: JR Miller and the McKay Burchett Team
3rd Place: Lindsey Sims, Denise Weber, Dan Ellis and Chad Winn
In the afternoon flight, Quirion Realty had a clean sweep of teams:
1st Place: Norman Quirion, Tara Quirion, Shelly Barlow and Mark Day
2nd Place: Jake Lomonaco, Ryan Parr, Steven Ward, and Michelle Corckrean
3rd Place: Robert Childs, Brandon Cooper, Kyle Robins, Keith Morgan, Joe Alston, Frank Tate, Davis Stack and Eric Lehman.
Chris Buerck, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville talked about how the money raised will be used. “We now have about 65 active matches and around 13 little boys on the waiting list so the money we raised from this tournament is going to go to helping support those matches and to find new mentors for those kids on the waiting list,” said Buerck
Buerck added that every dollar they raise gets passed straight to the service that is given to the kids and they are in need of volunteers/mentors especially men.
