CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay State University, along with several local first responding agencies, conducted active shooter training scenarios Wednesday at the Jenkins and Wynne campus recently purchased by the university.

The instructional course was led by Sam Shurley with the Austin, TX Police Department. Shurley is part of the Active Threat Integrated Response Course (ATIRC) team.

Shurley said local first responders as well as some from Greenbriar, Metro Nashville, Arkansas, Indiana, and Illinois participated.

Locally, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County EMS, Clarksville Fire Rescue were involved.

These departments came together to learn how to respond to active shooter events quickly and efficiently to save as many lives as possible.

“All of them are working together, which is an awesome thing,” Shurley said.
