CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) On one of the coldest days of the year so far, a total of 50 students in Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools received coats, gloves, and hats to help keep them warm this winter.

The students were from Northeast Elementary, Minglewood Elementary and New Providence Middle Schools. The clothing was presented at each of the schools by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Association (CMCEA), Clarksville Labor Association (CLA), and the Knights of Columbus Council in Clarksville.

Mark Gagliardi, Chairman of the CLA and a member of the Knights of Columbus, said the Knights of Columbus sponsor a program called Coats for Kids. He talked about teaming up with the CMCEA and the CLA to provide coats for the youngsters.

“When CMCEA reached out to us earlier this week and said they had a gift for our students I was so thrilled to be able to organize this and make sure that our kiddos had something extra during this season of giving,” said Ashlie Perry, Principal at Minglewood Elementary School.

Perry added that the school was blessed to have community partners that recognize there is a need and thanked the CMCEA, Clarksville Labor Association, and Knights of Columbus for helping make sure the children are prepared for winter.

Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, Millard House II was on hand for the presentation of the coats.

“We identified children that needed some winter coats, hats, and a little joy,” Gagliardi said. “We’re just having a nice time and it’s very nice to see, to remind you what the season is about, the blessings and seeing the smiles on their faces. It was a good morning.”
