Fort Campbell, KY. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – It was a cold 22 degrees, with a wind-chill of about 10 Tuesday at Campbell Army Airfield, but there was still a warm welcome in store from family and friends for 102 soldiers with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (BCT) of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
The Strike soldiers returned from a seven-month deployment, serving as part of the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine focusing on training members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and it is the first time in the last 12 months the entire 2nd BCT, “Strike”, is back at Fort Campbell.
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Starz said it was great to be home and great to see his kids and he talked about unit’s mission. “It was a complicated mission. We were there providing security systems to Ukraine. Our soldiers did a great job trying to adapt U.S. and NATO doctrine in a manner that can help advance the Ukraine in their efforts to transform their military,” said Starz.
