Fort Campbell, KY. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – It was hot day at Campbell Army Airfield as 276 soldiers returned home Wednesday from their nine-month deployment. The heat was no match for the cheers, applause, and shouts of welcome as the soldiers stepped off the plane, fell into formation, and walked into the hangar for a brief ceremony followed by time spent family and friends.
Soldiers with the 1st Brigade Combat Team (BCT) “Bastogne” of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), returned from serving as part of Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria. The troops were welcomed home by the 101st Deputy Commander for Support, Colonel Clair Gill who expressed his pride in them.
Colonel Gill asked the soldiers how many of them enlisted and joined the Army after 9/11 in 2001, and asked them to raise their hands. Many hands were raised in response to the Colonel’s question.
“These men and women joined the Army knowing they were getting ready to deploy just like they are, and that’s selfless service,” said Gill.
