FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Early Saturday morning 188 soldiers with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) returned from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Sergeant First Class Alfredo Magana talked about being home. “It feels great. I don’t have my family here, we just had a newborn three months ago. We decided it would be a lot better for her to stay with our parents in Florida, but I’m just anxious and ready to be over there with them. It feels great to be back,” said Magana.

During their deployment, the Task Force Destiny soldiers provided aviation support to U.S. coalition and Afghan forces throughout the Combined Joint Operation Area. The CAB exceeded 50,000 flight hours, transporting more than seven million pounds of cargo and 91,000 passengers.

Task Force Destiny also conducted 1,700 security missions and 256 air assault operation. Additionally five soldiers received the Distinguished Flying Cross for their heroism and valor.

Another group of 101st CAB soldiers are schedule to come home Monday afternoon.
