Fort Campbell, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Cold, rainy weather didn’t matter to the families of 171 101st soldiers with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade as they welcomed them home Friday from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

The new Commanding General of the 101st and Fort Campbell, Major General Brian Winski, welcomed the soldiers as his first official duty as commander. Winski said the soldiers would remember the day forever because it’s when they came back from Afghanistan from a tough, challenging and demanding mission where they accomplished everything that was asked of them and then some.

During their deployment the “Task Force Destiny” soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) provided aviation support to U.S. coalition and Afghan forces. The troops exceeded 50,000 flight hours, transported more than seven million pounds of cargo and 91,000 passengers along with conducting 1,700 security missions.
