CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)-The Pisgah Pirates enjoyed seeing their music lesson come to life Thursday March 5, when  the 101st Airborne Division Band visited to give them a special performance of some of their favorite songs from movies.

Each March, the 101st Airborne Division Band participates in the “Music in Our Schools Mentorship Program,” and performs concerts at local schools as a part of community outreach and music appreciation.

The gym filled with hundreds of students who hummed, snapped, clapped, and sang along to tunes at the  “Movie Music” themed concert at Pisgah.

The hour-long program featured scores from Disney movies such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen and Moana, as well as from Star Wars, Harry Potter and a little Pirates of the Caribbean in honor of their mascot.

The brass quintet featured trumpets, a french horn, tuba, and trombone which Morgan Tingle, music teacher at Pisgah said has been part of the student’s lesson in the past week.

“It’ so nice to see my students get a real-life experience of real instruments,” Tingle said. “It’s so cool to see them put that lesson to real life and I hope it inspires them.”

The 101st Airborne Division Band taught the students about each instrument, demonstrated it and later took questions.

They will play at several other local schools this month including Kenwood Middle School, West Creek High School, Hazelwood Elementary and Rossview.

The band enjoys the experience as much as the children and teachers.

“The most enjoyable thing is to see the excitement and inspiration,” said Daniel Aston, band member. “We are sharing music with kids and giving them the inspiration to pursue music. As a kid, I saw a symphony perform and it really inspired me to pursue music. Without that, I wouldn’t have. I really hope we inspired someone today.”
