CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville football picked up its third win in a row Thursday, Oct. 24 at Northwest, defeating the Vikings 21-6 in a Region 7-5A matchup.
The Wildcats got on the board first with a 2-yard touchdown run from Gabe Smith with six minutes left to go in the opening quarter.
Northwest’s Laqualin Nicholson took the snap from the Wildcat formation and ran into the endzone, scoring just before the end of the first half. The Vikings missed the extra-point attempt as CHS led 7-6 at the break.
Clarksville struggled in the red zone throughout. Northwest came away with two key interceptions with their backs against their own goal line.
The Vikings offense however couldn’t capitalize.
Late in the third quarter, senior running back Seth Phillips kept his legs churning and broke away for six points to give Clarksville a 14-6 lead.
With four minutes remaining in regulation, Phillips got loose again and put the game on ice with a 19-yard rushing touchdown to secure the Wildcat victory.
Clarksville (5-4, 3-2) hosts West Creek Friday, Nov. 1.
Northwest (3-6, 1-4) hosts Region 7-5A leader Henry County Friday, Nov. 1.
