Phil W. Petrie Sr., Age 83 of Clarksville passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021. Visitation Friday, September 17, 2021, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family present 5 p.m.to 7 p.m.at Foston Funeral Home. Graveside service 11 a.m.
Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Riverview Cemetery.
Mr. Petrie was born September 18, 1937 in Clarksville, TN to Owen Mac Petrie and Margret Meriwether Petrie. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eula Petrie, son, Owen Petrie, and his parents.
He was a graduate of LaGuardia High School, New York City, and a graduate of Tennessee A & I State College now known as Tennessee State University. Mr. Petrie was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
Mr. Petrie worked under Langston Hughes and was the first editor of Black Enterprise Magazine.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories sons, Phil W. (Sheila) Petrie, Jr and Willis Petrie all of Clarksville, TN; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a host of family ad friends.
