City, County and state officials were on hand for the ribbon cutting Monday at Patriot Place, 1024 Daniel Street in Clarksville. The residence is being used as transitional housing for veterans and has five bedrooms and two bathrooms with one of the bathrooms being full handicapped accessible. .
Currently there are four veterans who reside in the home. U.S. Army veteran, Anthony Costanza, talked about what Patriot Place means to him. “This is an awesome opportunity for the community and humanity. I’m just so very grateful for this opportunity and privileged to be part of this,” said Costanza.
Originally a HOME investment partnership funded project that was foreclosed, the City of Clarksville reclaimed the property and donated the house to Buffalo Valley. Buffalo Valley, the City of Clarksville’s Office of Housing and Community Development and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) worked to bring the project together.
Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, State Representative Joe Pitts and Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs, Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder spoke at the ribbon cutting and all agreed the project creates a real home for some of Clarksville’s homeless veterans and honors the City’s commitment to end veteran homelessness.
