Pat Merrel, 95, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, formally of Dover, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 1, 2019. He was born on July 29, 1924, in Big Sandy, Tennessee, to the late Leonard and late Lola Merrell.
Pat was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Merrell enjoyed riding motorcycles and fishing when he wasn’t spreading the gospel of Jesus. He was a cowboy at heart and loved traveling out west with his family. Pat and his loving wife Virgie Mae would travel when they could and they also enjoyed hiking in the mountains. His greatest passion, aside from his family, was studying and preaching God’s word to the lost and dying world. There are many souls who are in heaven today because he answered God’s calling for his life. Good Samaritains Inc. of Dover, Tennessee is yet another labor of love Pat had and is still strong today.
Mr. Merrell was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Mae Taylor Merrell; parents, Leonard and Lola Merrell; sisters, Sue Denesha and Linnie Loy.
Mr. Merrell is survived by his adoring daughters, Donna and James Demkowski, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, and Lola and Bill Parker, of Newnan, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; and brother-in-law, JR, and Terri Taylor, Dover, Tennessee.
Visitation for Mr. Merrell will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM from the chapel of Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Chapel with Pastor Gene Fields presiding. Funeral services will also be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at Taylor Chapel in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee at 1:00 PM CST. Interment will follow the service at Taylor Chapel Cemetery.
