CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay volleyball picked up a five-set (25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-9) Ohio Valley Conference victory against SIUE, Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Dunn Center. The Governors were led by senior outside hitter Jenna Panning’s career-high 21 kills, propelling them to a win on Senior Day.
SIUE (11-13, 6-6 OVC) bounced back after allowing an opening-set 18 kills. The Cougars recorded six blocks in the second set, stymieing the Governor offense to evens things at 1-1.
In the third set, SIUE came back from a 10-3 deficit to tie the set at 18-18. Both teams traded points to 22-22 before the Cougars won three of the last four to take a 2-1 match lead.
Austin Peay later went on a 7-2 run to take control of the fourth set. Freshman Tegan Seyring recorded four-kills during the stretch to help the Govs capture the set.
Panning did most of her damage in the first and third sets, opening the match with six kills before recording seven more in the third. Junior Chloe Stitt added 18 total kills for the Govs who outhit SIUE 72-59.
Seyring made her impact felt again in the fifth set when the Governors rallied from a 4-3 deficit. Her first kill put Austin Peay ahead 5-4 and her second capped a 6-0 run that helped seal the win.
Austin Peay (9-17, 7-5 OVC) returns to action at 6 p.m. Thursday as the Governors travel to take on Southeast Missouri.
