FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Soldiers with the 531st Hospital Center who recently returned to Fort Campbell from New York City, serving as part of the nation’s response in the fight against COVD-19 were recognized in a Welcome Home Ceremony Thursday.

Many of the soldiers family members were in the stands of the Division Parade Field at Fort Campbell along with a number of leaders from surrounding local communities.

Major General Brian Winski, Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell praised the 531st soldiers for treating their fellow Americans in New York City.

“You inspired confidence in hundreds of thousands, if not millions across the nation, that the Army, the 531st soldiers from Fort Campbell and the Department of Defense are throwing their shoulder into this battle and that’s when we knew we were going to win and COVID was going to lose.  So thank you for what you accomplished in New York and it is awesome to have you back,” said Winski.

The service members worked in the Javits New York medical Station, where they cared for more than 1,000 patients during their deployment.  The 531st Hospital Center provides a wide array of medical capabilities, including emergency medicine and surgical ability.

The Soldiers deployed to New Your City on March 26 and redeployed to Fort Campbell May 12.  Since returning, they underwent a precautionary quarantine on the installation to ensure their safety and the safety of their families and the community.
