FORT CAMPBELL, KY. (CLARKSVILLENOW) More than 100 soldiers assigned to 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) will return to Fort Campbell from their historic deployment to Cameroon.
These “Red Currahee” Soldiers made up the majority of Task Force (TF) Toccoa who deployed to northern Cameroon from April through September 2017. This group was the third iteration of 101st soldiers to participate in this mission, which began in September 2016 and marked the first conventional elements of the 101st Abn. Div. to ever deploy to the region.
During their deployment, TF Toccoa conducted Base Operations Security – Infrastructure missions at Contingency Location Garoua, Cameroon, in order to provide force protection and enhance the United States government strategic relationships, while accessing and influencing in the area.
TF Toccoa worked with the U.S. State Department, Cameroonian Air Force, non-government organizations and host nation partners to expand positive relationships and enable security in the region. In addition, they worked closely with U.S. Army Civil Affairs teams to provide outreach to the local communities.
The welcome home ceremonies are slated for the evening of Sept. 8 and Sept. 12 at Fort Campbell’s Hangar 3. Times for Welcome Home Ceremonies are subject to change with short notice.
