CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) –The Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Association (CMCEA), Clarksville Labor Association (CLA), and the Knights of Columbus in Clarksville recently partnered to make sure students will keep warm with a new coat.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools may be doing remote learning right now and students are spending more time with their families, but there are still chances to get outside this winter, and for that, a warm coat is a great thing to have.

Tuesday, the organizations donated eleven coats to students at Minglewood Elementary School and 13 coats to students at Byrns L. Darden Elementary School.  Even though the students were not at school, they will soon be getting their new coats.

Ashlie Perry, Principal of Minglewood Elementary said if the students are able to return to the classroom in January, they will distribute the coats to them in person.

Perry added that, if remote learning is extended, then plans are to contact the student’s parents and deliver the coats to their homes while practicing social distancing. The students in need of coats are identified through the school system.

Mark Gagliardi, Chairman of the Clarksville Labor Association, and a member of the Knights of Columbus at Immaculate Conception Church in Clarksville, said the Knights of Columbus sponsor their Coats for Kids program, and they get really nice coats at a great price to donate to boys and girls.

Constance Brown with CMCEA added that their organization is planning on buying gloves for all of the students who will be receiving the coats.
