CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Volunteers thanked soldiers, veterans and their families with free food and goods on Wednesday during Operation Honor.

Operation Honor is an event to honor all current and former military personnel and their families by giving them necessities they would otherwise have to buy themselves.

When veteran Melissa Gindhard learned that the program helps military families in need, she told her son, who works for the National Guard, that “he needs to come because he is a struggling student.” She was later given extra food and supplies.

Volunteers were kept busy as cars lined up around the football stadium at Austin Peay State University to receive aid. Veterans like Matthew Duncan were given several boxes of food and a bag of personal care items.

“It does feel nice to have someone actually care about you. When you get out of the military you lose a lot of that brotherhood and a sense of togetherness, so it’s really nice to have somebody who still cares about you,” Duncan said.

The Maynard Family was the presenting sponsor for the event, with F&M Bank, James Corlew Chevrolet, LifePoint Church, ECHO Power Engineering, AUSA, Jodi’s Cabinet Sales and Austin Peay State University as contributing sponsors. Other supporting sponsors include Feed the Children, Tyson, Beaver 100.3 and Q108. Partnering agencies include YAIPak Outreach, Operation Stand Down, Montgomery County Veterans Coalition, Soldiers and Families Embraced, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region and AUSA-Fort Campbell Chapter.
