CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Rotary Club is holding their annual State of Tennessee Old-Time Fiddler’s Championship at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center on Saturday, August 24.
Talented Tennessee musicians will compete in various instrument categories including dobro, mandolin, banjo, guitar and, most importantly, the fiddle.
This year’s judges include Boge Quin, A Clarksville native and experienced judge, Ed Carnes, a grand master fiddler, Carl Caldwell, winner of the Galax Fiddler’s Convention at age 17, and Fred Duggin, member of the band The New Tradition.
Prizes in the competition range from $25 in individual instrument categories to $1,500 for the Open Fiddle and Blue Grass Band titles. The state champion fiddler will also qualify for the Grand Master Fiddler Championship, held in Nashville in September.
Winners will take part in a one hour concert after the awards ceremony.
The competition begins at 9 a.m. and will continue until 8 p.m. Admission for this year’s event is $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Children under 12 are free. Proceeds will benefit the Clarksville Rotary Club and its charities.
