MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – The public has been warned to watch out for recent juror scams in Montgomery County.
According to the county website, scammers have been making calls claiming to be a Lieutenant from the Criminal Warrants Division of the Sheriff’s Office and saying the individual has failed to appear for jury duty and an arrest warrant has been issued.
The scammers then tell the victim to purchase a green dot card and send $400. The phone system used by the scammers mimics that of the Sheriff’s Office.
Officials have said not to follow these instructions. Citizens will never be asked to pay money or a fine for failing to appear for jury duty unless a judge finds the individual in contempt, which requires a court appearance first.
For questions, call the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office at 931-648-5700.
