OAK GROVE, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Oak Grove’s first OAKtoberfest will be Saturday, Oct. 2, at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel.
Admission is free, and the event will be held in the Grandstands and on the patio overlooking the harness racing track, according to a news release.
“We are ushering in fall with our version of a traditional German Oktoberfest that we are calling OAKtoberfest,” said Darold Londo, president and general manager at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel. “Come hoist a stein to good times and good luck with us.”
Doors open at 4 p.m. with a live polka band and food, Oktoberfest beers on tap and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase. Registration for two contests will be held from 4-5 p.m. While the event is open to all ages, you must be at least 21 and a member of the Oak Grove Gaming Players Club to participate in the contests. Membership in the Players Club is free.
The Frocktober Contest will be held at 5:30 p.m. and invites guests to dress to impress in their German best. Wear a dirndl or lederhosen – be authentic but get creative – and you could win a prize package that includes $500 Free Play, a complimentary night hotel room, $100 gift certificate to Garrison Oak Steakhouse and Oak Grove Gaming swag. Crowd applause will be included in deciding the winners, so bring all of your friends and family to cheer you on.
The Oak Grove Stein Hoist Challenge is an ultimate test of strength and endurance and will be held from 6-7 p.m. Competitors must hold a one-liter stein of beer, straight out without bending at the elbow or spilling any beer, for as long as they can. The US National Record for stein holding is 17 minutes and 11 seconds set in 2015. One male and one female who record the longest hoist time will each receive a prize package that includes $500 Free Play, a complimentary night hotel room voucher, $100 gift certificate to Garrison Oak Steakhouse and Oak Grove Gaming swag.
The OAKtoberfest celebration is preceded by the 27th annual Autumn Run Classic Car Show presented by Memory Lane Cruisers in Parking Lot C at Oak Grove Gaming. The car show is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Visit www.memorylanecruisers.net to learn more about the car show.
