CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – Northwest High School’s Athletic Department is pleased to share that Northwest High School’s Cheerleading Team had an excellent showing at the Universal Cheer Association (UCA) Summer Camp held at Vanderbilt University in June 2017.

Five high school cheer teams from Clarksville Montgomery County were in attendance to receive training from the UCA professionals who recognize JV-Varsity small and large division teams around the southern region. As part of the four-day camp, a top “banana” award is given to recognize the model cheer team that exemplifies team unity, communication, progression and development of skills, and of course school spirit.

More than 500 total participants were at camp, and Northwest’s Cheer Team secured the top banana award on the first and last day of camp.

Overall awards recognized Northwest as 5th place overall and a Gold Superior ribbon for the team’s Xtreme Dance Routine, which incorporated a variety of stunts and pyramid. Additionally, the team as a whole received the Spirit Stick Award all four days while at camp. Northwest Cheerleaders also received several individual awards, which are as follows: All-American- Jordan Copling, Maia Howe, and Jordan Phelps Pin It Forward- Sara Fuson and Harrison Robinson Elite Status Credit- Savannah Brown, Jordan Copling, Maia Howe, and Jordan Phelps.

Northwest High School is proud of the continual growth of the cheerleading program and looks forward to their performances this coming football and basketball season. Congratulations to the cheerleaders for their accomplishments this summer!
