CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Northwest High School’s Athletic Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Elena Hudson as Head Volleyball Coach. Hudson will replace Coach Matthew Spinella who has stepped down from the role to pursue his degree in Educational Leadership.

Coach Hudson holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Oglethorpe University. She is currently working on her Master’s degree in Social Work and a second Master’s degree in Teaching at Austin Peay State University.

Coach Hudson is from Atlanta, GA, where she attended Lithia Springs High School, but currently resides in Clarksville with her husband and three sons. She has been playing volleyball since her freshman year of high school and continued playing at Oglethorpe University. She has been a coach at the middle school, high school, and the club level for 10 years and has worked with girls ages 10-18 with varied skill levels.

Coach Hudson shared that she “believed that coaching volleyball is an opportunity to teach young women leadership, commitment, and teamwork skills that will held them be successful in life.” She loves the sport of volleyball and continues to play in leagues and tournaments throughout the year.

When asked about her new coaching position, Hudson replied that she “wants to instill and foster a love for the sport while encouraging the athletes to improve their knowledge of the sport and their skills as individuals and as a team.” She looks forward to teaching athletes new to the sport sound technique and skills and refining the skills of returning athletes to have a successful and competitive 2016 season.

Northwest High School’s Athletic Director, Jessica Peppard, said, “Coach Hudson has extensive volleyball knowledge that we believe will help grow the program at Northwest. We are also excited to have her on board because we believe she will be another positive role model for our Northwest students. I look forward to seeing what the new team will accomplish this fall under Mrs. Hudson’s leadership.”
