CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – When the COVID-19 pandemic was running rampant in the area, registered nurse Onquinette Hayslett saw a need in Clarksville for people to have access to immune-boosting alternative health options.
“I have been a registered nurse for eight years,” she said, noting that she was already doing intravenous therapy as a contractor for an area health group, so she decided to launch her own business, called I-Concierge, which opened in April 2020.
“I am really into health and wellness, (and I) did a lot of home visits (when) everyone was wanting to get their immune system boosted (during COVID-19),” she said. “I did mostly mobile visits where I would go and administer (at home) IV’s,” she said.
IV therapy involves injecting the client with fluids from an IV bag. The bag typically contains saline with a combination of vitamins and minerals.
“Clients do not have to have a prescription (to receive IV bag therapies), but I have had clients come in with doctors’ orders,” Hayslett said. “I have a client who has cancer, and her doctor wrote an itemized list of stuff that she needs (including) 50,000 milligrams of vitamin C every two weeks,” she said.
Hayslett said while she does not claim to cure any ailment, she can treat many symptoms using IV therapy. “I have had clients come in and say they have a migraine, and I just say I know exactly what to give you to get rid of that,” she said.
Starting her IV therapy clinic wasn’t easy, and Hayslett said there was an application process to have to go through. However, she was able to find a Michigan-based medical director for her medical lounge, and soon was the owner of not one, but two clinics.
“Dr. Chris Seitz, who is with Guardian Group, chose to oversee the clinic(s),” she said.
Guardian Group is located in Grosse Ile, Michigan, and oversees various clinics and medical practices.
Different IVs for different needs
Among Hayslett’s most popular IV therapies are The Terminator and Stella Rose.
“(The Stella Rose) has everything but the kitchen sink,” she said. It’s a 500 ml saline bag containing vitamin C, B-complex, glutathione, amino acids, calcium and magnesium, according to the I-Concierge website.
“The Stella Rose is a bag that can be used if you are someone who wants to maintain overall health. … This is for someone who is already taking vitamins and supplements daily and just wants an extra something,” she said.
The Terminator is an immune booster, she said. “People get this bag when they are about to travel or coming back from travel, after an illness, or during an illness such as COVID, the common cold or allergies. It comes with B-Complex, magnesium, calcium, selenium, zinc, NAC and vitamin C,” Hayslett said.
Another favorite therapy is Malibu Breeze, formulated to treat fibromyalgia; it works on nerves and inflammation.
Hayslett said she has done a lot of research. “I am always looking at the next best evidence-based practice,” she said. “That’s why I have the clientele I have,” she said, noting she went from 20 clients in 2020 to currently over 300.
Different IV bags are designed to meet different needs, and some are gender-specific, such as The Incredible Hulk.
“Men and women need different vitamins, minerals and antioxidants at different stages of life,” she said. “The combination of ingredients were chosen to meet those needs.”
The Incredible Hulk promotes energy and recovery. It’s a 500 ml saline bag that contains vitamin C, B-complex and amino acids.
Other services
I-Concierge also provides cryoskin therapy, which is a skin-cooling process that causes vasodilation.
“It cools the skin to -4 degrees and causes blood vessels to open up, which allows collagen to be produced,” she said. “It’s stretching the skin, but not really stretching the skin. It’s simply toning by cold process,” she said.
Hayslett said this therapy firms the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
She also offers a certified lymphatic drainage treatment. “A lot of times we have a lot of waste and things in our body that collects in our (lymph nodes),” she said.
