CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Northwest High School’s Cara Mitchell was recently selected to be a member of the Columbia State Lady Chargers Softball Team. Cara is a three-year member of the Lady Viking’s Softball Team.

Cara began her softball career at age 4 and has played softball in Kansas, Alaska, and Tennessee throughout her family’s military-related moves. She joined Northwest’s squad as a sophomore and has consistently been a starter for the Lady Vikings since her arrival from Alaska. As a senior, she was chosen by her teammates and coaches as a Team Captain.

When asked about her experiences as a Lady Viking, Cara replied, “My experience here has been amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better program and family to teach me not only softball skills, but also life skills that have made me who I am today.”

In addition to being a member of the softball team, Cara also earned a Varsity letter on the Volleyball team for 3 years, was a member of the JROTC Raider Team for 2 years, is the S5 Public Affairs Officer in the NWHS JROTC program, and has been involved with National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Chem Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and has successfully completed 3 AP courses in addition to her normal course-load. Cara is ranked 7th in her class with a 3.97 GPA.

NWHS Athletic Director, Jessica Peppard, stated, “Northwest is so proud of Cara and her accomplishments. She is a model student-athlete, which is evident from her being in the top ten of her class all while taking some of the toughest classes we offer and being a multi-sport athlete. She works hard and does not accept mediocrity. I anticipate seeing Cara accomplishing great things in her future and wish her the best of luck.”

Northwest Softball Head Coach, Kayla Estep, stated, “I am excited for Cara and her pursuit of playing softball at the next level. Columbia State is truly getting a gem in Cara. She definitely holds the characteristics necessary to excel in the collegiate softball world. I have never coached a player with a stronger work ethic than Cara and I know that she will go far both in college and in life. Cara’s work ethic, selfless attitude, maturity, and commitment to something greater than herself will be an asset to her teammates and coaches at Columbia State. On behalf of my coaching staff and Cara’s teammates, we truly wish her all the very best and are truly proud to call her a Lady Viking. Cara says she is “very excited to play softball for the Lady Chargers and looks most forward to conquering new goals and pushing herself to limits physically that she has not encountered.”
