FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – For the first time in 714 days, the Vikings have won a football game. Northwest traveled to Fryar Stadium at Fort Campbell High School on Aug. 23, and behind a strong start, the Vikings won, 35-16.
Northwest came out of the gates swinging, scoring 28 points in the first half. The ground game was effective for the Vikings, highlighted by Brice Moore’s four touchdowns rushing.
Viking head coach Mark Hall thought the fast start was crucial to the win and established a rhythm early. “We got on top of them early,” said Hall. “We were able to capitalize on their mistakes, I talk to them all the time about dominating our circumstances, and we were able to do that. It was a tremendous effort early and throughout the game.
Fort Campbell did not go quietly, and led by quarterback J.P. Perryman, they scored at the end of the third quarter to bring it within two scores. However, the comeback fell short, and Northwest tacked on another touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the nail in the coffin.

Fort Campbell head coach Henry Mitchell gave credit to the Vikings, but knows there’s a lot to be fixed. “We went against a 6A team, you can’t taking anything from them,” said Mitchell. “We came out and competed, but there were a lot of things we didn’t execute. We’re just going game by game, but we need to be more disciplined and physical.”
Fort Campbell starts the season 0-1, and heads to Hopkins County Central next week.
Northwest won their first game since the 2022 season, and for Mark Hall, it’s a culmination of the change in the program he’s tried to instill, and he’s just happy for his players.
“These kids have been through a lot,” said Hall. “I came in and talked about being a change in this program. We know what the view is of Northwest football, and we want to change that. This is a tremendous start to it.”
