CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – Northwest High School’s Athletic Department announced Thursday that Football Coach Vernon Wright has decided to resign from his head coaching position with the Vikings.

Coach Wright announced to the team on Friday, November 9 that he is stepping down to pursue other opportunities and focus on his family.

Coach Wright has been at Northwest for six years, with five years as head coach. Before he joined the coaching staff, the Vikings had not had a winning season since 2009.

“This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, but I feel this is the best for me and my family at this time,” Coach Wright said.

“We are grateful for the work Coach Wright has done with our football program and for the impact he has made on our students and community,” Northwest Athletic Director, Jessica Peppard, said.
