CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Northwest High Vikings traveled to the Coyote Den at West Creek High School for both teams’ second scrimmage of the 2025-26 season. The Coyotes jumped out to a multi-score first-half lead, but an energetic fourth-quarter comeback put the Vikings up on top with less than a minute left, and the defense held their ground on last time for a Vikings scrimmage win, by a score of 14-12.

Early on, both teams traded punts until Coyote senior running back Joshua Bonner broke the stalemate with a rushing touchdown from five yards out. After a quick three-and-out by the West Creek defense, Logan Adair added on to the lead with a catch in the back of the endzone to make it 12-0 West Creek right before the halftime break.

“(In the) first half we established the run and did some things we wanted to do,” West Creek head coach Micheal Booker told Clarksville Now. “We did a lot of really good things through the air, and we looked good. We just have to worry about our depth, because when we started subbing, we didn’t have that same energy. If we turn this football game off in the first half, we look really good.”

The Vikings came out of the halftime break eager to fight their way back into the game, and that’s exactly what they did. Northwest’s defense went on to not allow another score throughout the rest of the contest.

Meanwhile, Northwest wide receiver Aalijah Holland got the fourth quarter started by scoring on a jet sweep to bring the Vikings within a touchdown’s reach. After another defensive stop, Viking quarterback Jackson Hazel connected with Dominic Crandell in the corner of the endzone to tie it up at 12-12. Running back Carter Hazel then converted the two-point conversion for NWHS to give the Vikings the lead.

While the Coyotes had one last drive to try and regain the lead, Northwest safety Demarcus Andrews grabbed an interception on the last play of the game to put a bow on it, and Northwest earned a win against their west side rival in scrimmage action.

“These kids have worked hard for this,” said Vikings head coach Mark Hall. “It’s been a long couple of years for us to have this kind of excitement. We have to do a better job of coming out early and give credit to West Creek; they punched us in the mouth. We fixed a lot of things in the second half, and you saw the result, but we still have a lot of problems. We’re excited about what we did, but our record is still 0-0.”
