CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Northwest Vikings traveled across the river to Montgomery Central High School for an in-city matchup with the Indians on Friday. A defensive, flag-heavy contest saw Northwest’s Demarcus Andrews score two second-half touchdowns to power the Vikings to their second win of the year, 12-0.
In the first half, the two teams traded punts, turnovers, and flags. Northwest had a drive end up inside the 10, before Central’s Brayden Sonthavilaylack picked it off in the endzone to prevent the score. After an ejection on both sides ended the first half, Northwest’s Andrews returned the first punt of the third quarter to the house to finally break the stalemate and bring the Vikings their first lead of the contest.

“Our defense kept us in this contest; they were put in a lot of bad situations, and we bent, but we never broke,” said Northwest head coach Mark Hall. “We were flying to the football all night. Andrews is a leader, a great kid, and we lean on him a lot. We just made an adjustment at the half, and our offensive line blocked well for him, too.”

Central went three and out on the next possession, and on the first play of the next Northwest drive, who else but Andrews on an 80-yard house call to pull away for a 12-0 lead. In the blink of an eye, a game where we thought we might not see a touchdown had two on back-to-back drives. The Indians rallied late, but a fumble on the goal line with four minutes left in the contest kept Central off the scoreboard, and the Vikings earned a road win in a tough environment, 12-0.
“Defense has done a great job all season; they’ve been a strength of our team,” said Indians head coach Wyatt Page. “We just have to be more consistent with the little things offensively and be better collectively as a unit. I take responsibility for that. We have to be able to put points on the board to win football games.”
For Northwest, they’ve now won more games this season than in the last two years combined.
“It’s been a long time since this program has been in this position,” said Hall. “It’s exciting, it means a lot to these kids. These past few years have been tough on them, but they have fought through it all, and they play for each other. We play like a brotherhood, and that’s what we are.”
