PARIS, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Northwest Vikings boys’ basketball team traveled to Henry County High School for the District 14-4A championship against the Patriots on Thursday. The Vikings were the last seed in the district and had made upset after upset to make it to the championship, but fell just short against Henry County, who got more stops defensively to earn a 55-42 win.

Both teams could not get anything going offensively in the first quarter, mostly due to the physical intense defense both teams were playing, and it was reflected by the 5-3 score after one period. The second quarter was a three-point shootout, including four from Northwest guard DJ Dallas himself, bringing it to a 24-22 Henry County lead.

“We came in with a good game plan defensively, and I’m really proud of my guys for executing,” said Vikings head coach Thomas Stanley. “We struggled to score inside, and that bit us in the butt. We became too reliant on the deep jump shot. Points in the paint is a big goal for us every night, we didn’t get what we wanted. Hats off to Henry County.”

The Patriots used a huge third quarter to go up by double digits and never turned off the gas defensively. Henry County never relented, earning them the district championship. Despite the loss, Northwest’s postseason run continues, and the Vikings may have a few more statements to make.

“We’re going to use this motivation,” said Stanley. “We have to show up to practice tomorrow focused and prepared. We’re facing a Clarksville High team that gets better late in the season like they always do with Coach Young. They’re going to be ready to play, and we will too.”
