CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kenwood Knights traveled to Northeast High School for a rivalry volleyball matchup with the Eagles. While Kenwood battled all night, the Eagles used energy and communication to sweep the Knights, winning three sets to none.
Northeast head coach Joyce Williams was excited to see a point of emphasis in practice come across in their game.
“We’ve been practicing, keeping up our energy all week,” Williams said. “They kept it up and held each other accountable for their mistakes. It wasn’t ridiculing them for mistakes, it was cheering them on and letting them know it’s OK to mess up.”

Northeast won the first two sets, but not because of lack of fight from the Knights. Kenwood head coach Monae Matthews knows her team fights for every point.
“We could be down 24-0 in a set and still put some points on the board; you don’t know what you’re going to get with us,” Matthews told Clarksville Now. “I saw a lot of hustle and grit from our girls tonight, and they made it work with what they had.”
However, Northeast would pull away in the third set, highlighted by thunderous spikes from Sanii Pearson. Williams was happy to get a win, especially against an in-city opponent.
“When the girls want to play, they play very well together,” said Williams. “Once we started playing at our pace, we can do great things. I was excited to see them pull this one out.”
