Murfreesboro, Tenn. – (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) The Northeast Eagles took on the Riverdale Warriors and won 56-36 in the first round of the 2018 Class AAA State Basketball Tournament at the Murphy Center at MTSU, on Wednesday.
The Eagles came out strong and never looked back. They led the entire game and defeated the Warriors sending them home. Many of the media outlets picked Riverdale to make the finals.
Riverdale High School is in Murfreesboro, essentially making this a home game. Northeast showed up with a caravan of buses filled with students and Northeast fans. Those Eagle fans kept the energy high as they out cheered the chants of the opposing fans.
Northeast’s Alec Kegler had a stellar game finishing with 26 points. “We prepare for every game the exact same,” Kegler said. “We practice hard and try not to change too much.”
Quinton Cross moved the ball well and had 9 points in the game. “We believe that we can play with anybody in the state,” Cross said. “There weren’t any game day jitters for us.”
Northeast moves on to the semi-finals where they play Whitehaven, Friday at 10 a.m.
