CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Northeast High football team hosted the Hendersonville Commandoes on Friday, Aug. 30, which marked the first home game of the season for the Eagles. Northeast fell behind early in the game, and despite a late scoring run, the Eagles were unable to overcome the deficit as they fell by a score of 42-13.

The Commandoes established themselves right from their jump, as they were able to score on just their second play of the night. Then, they built their lead to 21-0 before the end of the first quarter. Northeast High head coach Deonte Weston admitted that this young team made some mistakes that hurt them tonight.

“It’s a young squad and they’re learning, but that’s no excuse,” Weston told Clarksville Now. “We play who we play, and there’s a lot of mistakes that we made, and we need to get better on.”

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-2 on the young season, but Weston believes his squad is continually improving.

“Hendersonville’s a really good team, you have to tip your cap,” Weston said. “However, I believe we fought these last two weeks, we’ve gotten a lot better. These last two weeks got us really prepared for region play, and I think we’re going to fair really well because of it.”
