CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Summit Spartans traveled to Exit One for a matchup with the Eagles at Northeast High School on Thursday night. In a rematch from just a week ago, the Spartans lead the game from start to finish, sweeping the season series with a 60-47 victory.

The game was a slugfest early, with both teams only combining for 11 total points in the first eight minutes. Summit forward Ford Deshazo decided to take over, as he scored 10 of the Spartans’ 21 points in the second quarter.

During that same timeframe, Northeast guard Destin Jones scored 9 points himself, and a battle was underway at the half, as Summit only led 25-19.

“They had height on us, and it was hard to combat defensively,” said Eagles head coach Ivard Brimley. “We rotated a lot of guys, just to see which group would respond the best to the way we were trying to attack them, and it worked at times, but they also got us a few times defensively. We’re just trying to see which guys have the most chemistry at the times we need them to.”

The third quarter was where the Spartans made their money, outscoring the Eagles 21-10 to establish control of the contest. Deshazo poured in another 13 second-half points to end the night leading all scorers with 23. The Eagles made one last run in the fourth quarter, led by 10 points from guard Terry Jones, but Summit still comfortably earned a win to complete the sweep of the two-game season series.

“Sometimes we have to realize that we have spurts of greatness, but then we have spurts where we make the same mistakes over and over again,” said Brimley. “We always have this little surge in the fourth, but we have to get to that point in a position to win the game. We’re a young group, and they are learning to be leaders as we push to keep getting better, nearing the end of the season.”
