CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Northeast Eagles hosted the Northwest Vikings for senior night on Friday. The Eagle’s offense started off the game on fire, and with the help of their defense holding Northwest to only a field goal on the night, Northeast earned its first win of the season, 21-3.

The first quarter was quiet for both teams, trading punts for a few drives. Then, the offense exploded in the second quarter for three straight touchdowns: first a catch by Terry Jones, Shamad Parker grabbing a touchdown second, and Jonas Veasy getting on the board last, to give the Eagles a 21-0 lead heading into the half.

Northeast head coach Deonte Weston loved the fight his team showed in his first win as a head coach. “We came out with a lot of intensity,” said Weston. “We started a little slow offensively, but we got it together. That was a good way to come out on senior night.

Northwest came out of the half and stifled the Eagle offense, but were unable to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. They kicked a field goal mid-way through the fourth, but that would be the only score of the night, as the Vikings fell 21-3.

Northwest head coach Mark Hall knows that his team has to be better offensively.

“They fought hard, but we have to put points on the board at some point,” said Hall. “Defense played lights out, especially up front. They get after it. We just have to regroup and try to knock off Dickson County next week.”

As for the Eagles, a celebration ensued for their first win of the year. Despite the joy of grabbing a win, Weston highlighted areas where his team can continue to grow.

“To go forward as a program, you have to play two halves of football,” said Weston. “However, they played a great game against a very evenly-matched opponent, and we got the better half of them.”
