CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Northeast High School sophomore defensive back Destin Jones has been named Clarksville Now’s Player of the Week following his performance in the Eagles’ 48-20 win over Christian County.

Jones had three interceptions, including a 57-yard pick-six, and six tackles in the season opener.

“I’m thankful for this award, but I know it’s not just me,” said Jones. “I’ve got great coaches, great teammates, and most of all, God. Without them, none of this would be possible.”

Jones’ performance was one for the record books, recording three interceptions in one game. A Clarksville Now All-Area selection and a Tennessee Sports Writers Association Freshman All-State selection last season, Jones is looking to have a breakout sophomore campaign, and it started with a bang in the Stadium of Champions.

“Destin’s performance was really special, and he definitely set the tone for us,” said Northeast head coach Deonte Weston. “In a game where we started off a little slow, he was the spark we needed. I’d be interested to see when or if that has ever been done in school history.”
