Norman “Q’ball” Long, age 79 of Clarksville passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The funeral service will be from noon Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Garden. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Foston Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church with the family present.

He was born February 15, 1934 in Clarksville to the late George Frank Long and Erma Bell Long. He was a 1953 graduate of Burt High School. He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the Male chorus and Combined choir. He was the first African American Assistant Fire Chief of Montgomery County.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory loving wife Eliza Jane Long; daughter Kristie L. Long; sons Floyd E. Smith and Micheal (Valerie) Long;brother Charles K. Long all of Clarksville, TN;sisters Mary C. Owens and Margaret L. Greene both of Indianapolis,IN five grandchildren and one great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
