Update, 4:45 p.m.: Artillery training is expected to end today, and is not scheduled to resume next week, according to Fort Campbell Command Information Officer Brendalyn Player; however, routine unit training will continue and may produce noise in some areas.

Player also said a drop in the cloud ceiling may have had an impact on noise intensity and artillery concussions over the last few days.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Fort Campbell has been doing live artillery fire exercises, creating a large amount of noise in the area and causing some residents concern.

While booming noises and rumbling are a common phenomenon for Clarksville residents, especially those in the New Providence and Fort Campbell Boulevard areas, some have noted a dramatic increase this week.

Residents have reported the loud booming and rattled windows further from the installation than usual.

“It just seems like it’s more booms than usual, louder and more protracted. We know that goes on, but last night it went almost all night long,” said Carmack Shell, who lives in Warfield Boulevard near The River Club Golf Course.

According to a post to U.S. Army Fort Campbell Facebook page, the installation is conducting a large artillery firing. These exercises can generate a great deal of noise and energy.

“Did you hear that? What is all that noise? Why is my house rattling? We can be a noisy neighbor with all the training our service members do,” the post said.

Clarksville Now reached out to Fort Campbell regarding timeframes for the exercises, but has not yet received a response.

Fort Campbell invites anyone with noise related concerns to contact them through the Fort Campbell website.
