CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The newly formed Sounds of Home Chorus: A Chorus for Military and Veterans is passionate, patriotic and patiently awaiting their debut at this year’s spring choral concert, on May 5 at Madison Street United Methodist Church (319 Madison Street).
In conjunction with the Gateway Chamber Choir, the Sounds of Home Chorus will perform a set of songs and then come together to sing the finale.
This year’s theme, “How Can I Keep from Singing” includes music selections centered on the connection of music and humanity.
“Music is a part of humanity from the earliest of time through lullabies, until the end of life with a requiem,” says Chorus Director Kristina Waugh. “Music can help us celebrate many events in life, as well as get us through some of the tough times.”
The Sounds of Home Chorus was recently formed by the Gateway Chamber Orchestra with support of the Tennessee Arts Commission to offer active-duty military, veteran service members and their spouses the opportunity to join a new choral ensemble to promote creative expression through music.
“We are very proud of the Sounds of Home Chorus preparing for their debut choral performance,” says GCO Music Director Gregory Wolynec. “This is a unique group of individuals who have worked very hard and we salute their dedication and love for this country.”
The Gateway Chamber Choir and Sounds of Home Chorus will perform “How Can I Keep from Singing” at Madison Street United Methodist Church on May 5, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the TN Military, Veterans & the Arts Chorus Facebook page.
