Updated with statement from Crosslin.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The newly appointed District 3 representative on the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board has resigned before her first meeting, within hours of being sworn in.

Teresa Crosslin was sworn in on Monday, Nov. 17, and resigned that evening, stating, “I, Teresa Crosslin, upon further consideration, am immediately resigning my position with the CMCSS School Board, District 3,” according to CMCSS.

She did not provide a reason for resigning, according to CMCSS spokesman Anthony Johnson. She was not present at Tuesday’s School Board meeting, which was to be her first.

Clarksville Now reached out to Crosslin, who provided the following statement: “After attending 4 days of the Tennessee School Board Association Convention and the CMCSS orientation, a hard realization hit me, about how much was involved in accepting this position. After careful consideration, I felt I wouldn’t be able to give the necessary commitment to the position of District 3 that it definitely deserves. I would like to thank everyone who encouraged, voted and cheered me on, this was an incredible experience and the CMCSS board members are absolutely the best!”

A lifelong Clarksville resident and parent, Crosslin attended Austin Peay State University and at one point owned her own business, Crosslin Catering. Her last listed job on her resume was with Mosaic Learning Center in 2023.

Crosslin chosen over 3 others who applied

She was to replace Herbert Nelson, who resigned in August. She was appointed on Nov. 10 by a vote of the Montgomery County Commission, selected over three other applicants with 11 of 19 votes.

The other applicants for the position were:

  • Darryl D. Anderson, who works for the State of Tennessee as an I.T. business administrative lead
  • Michelle James, who worked at the US Army Reserve at Fort Knox for 25 years and is now a semi-truck driver.
  • Kathryn Texidor, the assistant director of student conduct at Belmont University.

What’s next for School Board member search

On Tuesday, CMCSS notified Montgomery County leadership of Crosslin’s resignation. The county will have to start another nomination process to fill the District 3 vacancy, with the process expected to take place in January, Johnson said.
