NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A new report about child obesity in the United States shows the epidemic in children across Tennessee is declining.

Nationwide, 15.8 percent of young people ages 10 to 17 have obesity, according to the newest national data from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Tennessee’s obesity rate in children from 10 to 17 years old has dropped significantly. A previous study of 2016 data said Tennessee’s rate was nearly 20 percent, but dropped to 15.6 percent for 2016 to 2017.

This ties Tennessee with Arkansas and California for the 20th highest in the nation.
