CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Earlier this year, on March 3, the New Providence Indoor Pool suffered heavy damage from windstorms that swept across Clarksville. The “dome,” or covering of the pool, was damaged beyond repair, leaving city officials on the search for a new pool cover.

With the indoor pool normally opening in October, that opening won’t be happening this year, while the city continues to seek a solution.

“Due to the magnitude of the storm, and the involvement of FEMA in the disaster declaration, we are still working through the process about what will be reimbursed, and what our options are going forward,” Mayor Joe Pitts told Clarksville Now.

Pitts said that as the insurance process continues to play out, the city is trying to determine the cost of replacement or relocation of the pool dome, but officials are uncertain of the timeline and when the equipment will be replaced.

There is not expected to be an indoor pool season during 2023, which runs from October to Early May. Aquatic Superintendent Kimberly Gilbert said the New Providence Pool – without the dome – was open for the summer season.

The facility is scheduled to open for summer outdoor season swimming once again during the months of May to September. The New Providence Pool is at 168 Cunningham Lane, and first opened in in October 2020.
