WOODLAWN, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery County Parks and Recreation dedicated its new BlueCross Healthy Place Community Hub Playground at Woodlawn Park on Thursday, July 8, with a ribbon cutting.

Parents and their children gathered around the entrance to the playground for the ribbon cutting, and the kids quickly headed over to be the first to try out every piece of equipment.

“It’s truly heartwarming, for me to walk up here and see this and to realize what it is going to do for the Woodlawn community and also for all of Montgomery County,” County Mayor Jim Durrett said.

The playground was made possible through a Blue Cross Healthy Place grant.

“This is something that we love to do, we love to see a community come together with the spirit of play and the spirit of togetherness. It’s a joy to be here and celebrate alongside each of you,” said Chelsea Johnson, director of the Blue Cross Foundation.

The park features two play areas, one for children ages 2-5, and another for ages 5-12, with both designed for age-appropriate play, said Sally Burchett, Resources and Programming manager for Montgomery County Parks and Recreation.

The playground also includes a set of swings and three fitness stations for ages 13 and up, with adult fitness areas. There is a pavilion in the center of the playground for families to spend time together.

Burchett added that the design is called the Community Hub and it is meant to give that community feel with everything centered around one central pavilion.

Woodlawn Park is at 2910 Woodlawn Park Road in Montgomery County.
