CLARKSVILLE, TN – Local nonprofits Going Global, Mosaic Church, and First Presbyterian Church have joined forces to form a new nonprofit to help solve the affordable housing problem for low to moderate income individuals in Clarksville.

The purpose of the new Going Local Initiative is the rehabilitation and new construction of affordable housing for rent or homeownership by low to moderate-income individuals. One of the first priorities of the newly formed organization was to become a certified community housing development organization (CHDO). CHDO is a special federal designation for nonprofit affordable housing organizations that meet certain qualifications making them eligible for state and local dollars to assist with their housing projects.

The CHDO certification was awarded by the City of Clarksville Neighborhood and Community Services Department on Dec. 8, and presented by Mayor Joe Pitts to the newly formed organization on Dec. 16 in a formal meet and greet at Mosaic Church.

Going Local Initiative will be launching its first projects in 2022 and will be developing and collaborating with other nonprofits for wrap-around services to serve and support recipients. GLI will initially focus on single-family residences with the goal of expanding their scope of services to include senior adult community housing.

Yolanda Stewart will serve as the executive director of the Going Local Initiative alongside members of First Presbyterian Church, Mosaic Church, and members of the Clarksville community.
