CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has received funds approved in the new county budget for six new School Resource Officers (SROs) for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

The new SROs will be added the MCSO’s staff of 38 deputies.

“We’re excited to improve the SRO program, which improves the safety of our schools. We’re really looking to get more of a one-to-one ratio in our elementary schools,” Sheriff John Fuson said. “It is going to help us to reduce the ratio in our elementary schools but there’s also going to be some help for the high schools and even some of the middle schools to have a little bit of extra help there to curb issues we’re seeing in those schools.”

Fuson added that his office wants to look at the data they have and apply those resources to where they feel it is most needed to improve the safety of the students, faculty, staff, and those buildings.

There is no definite time frame on when the SROs would begin their service because the new deputies will need to be recruited, trained, and acclimated to their school.
