CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts administered the oath of office to new Clarksville Fire Rescue Chief Freddie Montgomery Thursday, August 1. Firefighters, city and county officials filled Freedom Point at Liberty Park to welcome the new chief.
Montgomery comes from his hometown of Hopkinsville, KY. where he served as Chief of the Hopkinsville Fire Department for over five years. He brings with him more than 20 years of Firefighting and emergency responder experience.
Along with Firefighters from Clarksville Fire Rescue, many Firefighters from Hopkinsville and Fort Campbell were also in attendance.
Montgomery succeeds Chief Mike Roberts, who retired effective August 1 after 20 years in the position, He is the first department director to be named by Mayor Pitts since he took office in January.
“We have much to be proud of in our city and in Clarksville Fire and Rescue, and now I’m confident that, in Chief Freddie Montgomery, we have found the best possible person to lead us into the future,” said Mayor Pitts.
Chief Montgomery talked about taking over his new post. “I am excited to be the new Chief for Clarksville Fire Rescue. They have an amazing department with people that are just ready to go. We’re going to do great things and I look forward to it. We’re going to take it all the way,”
