CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.—Sophomore Taylor Goodley’s final-round 73 gave Austin Peay State University women’s golf runner-up honors at the 2016 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, Tuesday, from Greystone Golf Club.
The Governors finished two shots behind overall champion Southern Illinois with a two-round 621 (308-313); Austin Peay was able to claim solo runner-up honors, finishing four shots ahead of Belmont (625). North Carolina A&T (642) and Dayton (650) rounded out the top-five.
Goodley’s final-round 73 was not only the best of the day by two shots; it was her second-best score of the fall and propelled her from sixth to second over the final 18 holes. She finished one shot behind tournament medalist Kristie Yang of Southern Illinois.
In her final appearance as a Governor, senior Kelsey Schutt posted a top-10 finish, tying for eighth with a 156 (76-80)—she will graduate in December and will miss the final fall tournament in two weeks due to a prior commitment.
Junior AnnaMichelle Moore (79-78=157) and sophomore Ashton Goodley (77-82=159) both finished in the top-15, with Moore earning a share of 10th and Goodley tying for 13th. Moore was the only Gov other than Taylor Goodley to shoot in the 70s in both her rounds.
Senior Morgan Kauffman rounded out the APSU lineup with a 169 (85-84).
As an individual, freshman Meghann Stamps had a first home tournament to remember; she tied for sixth with a 155 (75-80), the best 36-round showing of her brief Austin Peay career. Junior Amber Bosworth finished tied for 13th (79-80=159) as the Governors other individual.
“We were right there,” head coach Sara Robson said. “It’s a little disappointing because we left a lot of shots out there both yesterday and today. We’ve got to learn from it and keep moving on; hopefully being frustrated by the finish this week will catapult them into a great finish.”
The Govs have one more tournament on the schedule for the fall—a trip to Rock Hill, South Carolina for the Winthrop Invitational, Oct. 22-23.
