CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for heat today.
Temperatures will be in the mid 90s with the heat-index rising to 101 degrees by afternoon.
“Avoid leaving children or animals in a closed car,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Mark Rose, adding “in just a few minutes temperatures can build up rapidly inside a vehicle.”
Rose also advised anyone outdoors today to take frequent breaks and drink plenty of non-caffeinated, non-alcoholic fluid. Find more tips on heat safety here.
The intense heat will be followed by a cold front dropping daytime temperatures to the 70s by Thursday.
