NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) — UPDATE: Police tweeted that they found the gunman who shot the officer dead inside a room at the Cumberland Inn on Tuesday morning, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say the wounded officer, Terrance McBride, was shot after entering the motel room to serve a warrant. McBride has worked for the agency for three years.
Metro Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson said McBride has a serious shoulder wound, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
Metro Nashville Police on Tuesday tweeted that 43-year-old Paul Hardesty shot Officer Terrance McBride in the shoulder when officers responded to a call at the Cumberland Inn reporting a man located there might have outstanding warrants.
The tweet noted that Hardesty was a parolee from New York who had moved to Tennessee in March.
Police say McBride and another officer were working to clear a room at the motel when shot rang out from the bathroom, hitting McBride.
Hardesty was later found dead from what police say is an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
A police officer in Tennessee has been shot and wounded while trying to serve a warrant at a Nashville motel.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said on its Twitter page that the officer was shot in the shoulder at the Cumberland Inn and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The officer’s name wasn’t released.
News media reported the suspect was barricaded in a room at the motel, which has been evacuated.
Police said they were attempting to arrest the suspect. According to media reports, officers are using a megaphone to speak with the suspect.
The road in front of the motel has been closed and police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
