FORT CAMPBELL, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) With the announcement of the closing of Demos’ restaurant in Clarksville on Friday, around 50 people were suddenly left without work.
If you’re one of those people or anyone looking for a job, it might pay you to take a closer look at Fort Campbell.
Melissa Schaffner, Marketing Director of Fort Campbell’s Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), contacted Clarksvillenow.com and spoke about trying to help the former Demos’ workers, as well as others in surrounding communities, about employment opportunities on post.
Schaffner said a lot of the entry level and front facing jobs at MWR are spouse preference positions, which means if a military spouse applies and is qualified that would be MWR’s first selection to help family members of the military. However, if no spouses apply or more positions are available, MWR selects other candidates.
“I think the thing that a lot of people don’t often consider is that there are positions that we need a lot of and maybe no spouse applied or maybe only one spouse applied and we need five people. That shouldn’t be a deterrent, especially for people who live locally to apply for jobs on Fort Campbell,” said Schaffner.

Schaffner also talked about some of the benefits of being a Department of the Army employee and working inside the gates of Fort Campbell. One of those is being able to take advantage of MWR programs and facilities as well as becoming eligible to live on post in rental housing as a civilian.
MWR is constantly seeking help is with their child care facilities and food service employees are also needed for MWR restaurants and catering, especially with the holidays coming up. Schaffner added that the pay is competitive and the benefits are excellent.

Schaffner said you can filter those by choosing “open to the public.” If you don’t have any military affiliation you can make that choice and it will show the jobs the public can apply for. Those jobs can then be sorted on the site to narrow down the type of work you are looking for and qualified for.
It is important to note that every potential employee must go through a thorough background check.
