NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Accused double murder suspect Kirby Wallace has been moved to a prison in Nashville.
WKRN News 2 reports that Wallace was transferred to Riverbend Maximum Security Institution Thursday morning after he was held in a state prison in Morgan County for “security concerns.” He had previously escaped from the Stewart County jail.
District Attorney Ray Crouch said Wallace was held in Morgan County while waiting for space for him to open at Riverbend.
Wallace is very familiar with the jail in Stewart County. Back in 1983 he escaped after an arrest for burglary.
Stewart County Sheriff Frankie Gray says the state prison is simply more secure.
The transfer to Morgan County Correctional Complex put Wallace in East Tennessee. Whenever he appears in court, the Stewart County Sheriff had to drive more than 220 miles to pick him up and then transport him back.
Wallace faces a long list of charges in Stewart and Montgomery Counties: first degree murder, felony murder, first degree attempted murder, especially aggravated burglary, two counts of especially aggravated burglary, two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated arson.
He was the subject of a massive manhunt in early October.
